GO TRI Something New in Leeds!
Are you looking for a new challenge? Have you considered giving one of the city’s fastest growing sports a go?
Triathlon has well and truly landed in Leeds over the last few years. The city has played host to the World Triathlon Series for the past couple of years and Leeds is producing some World Class triathletes and para-triathletes. The momentum behind the sport is incredible – but don’t think triathlon just for elite athletes.
The GO TRI Something New in Leeds project is being delivered by Leeds City Council and British Triathlon with the support of Sport England. The aim is to provide fun and safe opportunities for people to get into triathlon for the first time with reduced distance events in a variety of locations and settings.
GO TRI season has been in full swing in Leeds with events taking place all over the city. Hundreds of people have taken the plunge into a new sport. Some are already involved swimming, running or cycling and some are completely new to all three elements of the sport. There’s something for all the family. Adult and junior events have been held across the city at Middleton Park, Armley, Fearnville, John Charles and Rothwell leisure Centres, Bramley Baths and the Brownlee Centre to date. More events are planned for the coming weeks at Leeds Trinity University, Temple Newsam and a Christmas themed ‘Mince Pie-athlon’ at Bramham Pavillion!
If you feel a bit daunted about the prospect of taking part in a GO TRI event don’t worry! There are regular beginner running and cycling opportunities along with novice training days and beginner training programmes to help develop your skills and confidence.
There’s also opportunities to develop other skills around triathlon with event organisers courses, activator courses and also the hugely popular beginner open-water swimming sessions in Roundhay lake.
Go on, give it a TRI!
