Leeds Girl Can Celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day took place on Saturday 7th March, and to celebrate Leeds Girl Can organised a Parkrun takeover at Potternewton Park.

The event was a great success and the collaboration between This Girl Can and Parkrun really resonated with the women and girls in Leeds. The statistics provided by Potternewton Parkrun showed that the event had a positive impact on the number of people that took part.

There were 60 first timers and representatives of 20 different clubs took part with an overall attendance of 195 participants running, jogging and walking the route. A lovely sea of purple could be seen throughout the park with most people sporting their best purple outfit or This Girl Can T-shirt.

There was a great team of volunteers from Leeds Girls Can Ambassadors, Springhead Roses, Sole Sisters, Good Gym, many individual Run Leaders and the Potternewton Core team. All supporting and cheering everyone along to the finish line.

This was by no means a female only environment with men supporting the event too and a few daddies with buggy’s helping to make the morning an all-round success for everyone involved.

Leeds Girls Can would like to thank the Leeds Girls Can Ambassadors Shannon P, Maisie, Ellie, Dani, Kirsty and Run Director on the day Liz.
