The Housing Harriers Smash The Dash!

Neil Diamond

The Leeds Abbey Dash took place last Sunday (27th November 2019), and is renowned a being a fast flat 10km!

The Dash attracts runners from all over the county in search of that 10km personal best time. This year the route was altered slightly to remove the lap around Cardigan Fields on Kirkstall road, which allowed for a smoother and faster run for the 6739 runners who took to the streets of Leeds to complete the 10km.

This year the ever competitive Property & Contracts team from Leeds City Council (now known as the legendary Housing Harriers) took on the annual Abbey Dash in Leeds and smashed it with a haul of personal bests.

This was the 6th time that we have entered a team to the Abbey Dash and we always encourage a mix of abilities to join us.

The great weather coupled with high spirits and determination meant the inform team ploughed back and forth from the Headrow to Kirkstall Abbey and back again. The full 10 kilometres.

The Harriers included Helen Jackson, Frank Rounding, Adam Crampton, Thuja Phillips, Dan Tate, Simon Thompson and Neil Diamond.

Craig Simpson, (Out of the picture) who had unfortunately injured himself playing football the week before and was therefore unavailable for selection.  But did offer motivation, full baggage and kit support.

The day was completed with deserved liquid in the Cuthbert Broderick to rehydrate. Special mention to Dan Tate who did the distance in a personal best time of 33.37.  Incredible.

Running plays a large element within this service.  In fact, as part of our ‘wellbeing’ agenda, people are encouraged to run in groups, along the Aire Valley trail at the rear of our building. For the enthusiasts, Dan Tate offers interval training techniques at John Charles stadium from time to time. We also entered a team at the corporate challenge of the Leeds Dock Running Relays event, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
